While Zach Condon has been off doing whatever he's been doing the last few years (a wine tasting tour through Europe?), Beirut bassist Paul Collins formed a band called Soft Landing. Their first album for Ba Da Bing Records works within the same mold as his bread-and-butter band — the songs lean towards heartfelt folk — but there is much more light-footed jangle pop at play than old-world baroque. We could see them really rocking out in a live setting, counteracting some of Beirut's preciousness in the process.
